“Las mujeres del Banco Hispano Americano (1922 – 1935). Diferencial de género e inclusión financiera en perspectiva histórica”

Abstract: The study of female shareholders in private banks aims to be a modest contribution to the new and suggestive research line of financial inclusion in Spain with a historical perspective, by locating rigorous sources with detail of shareholders and their sex. The analysis of the lists of shareholders of the Banco Hispano Americano (1922-1935) offers for first results that give answers in this line of research. The Banco Hispano Americano was one of the six big private banks of Spain at the time, with branches in all the country. For the studied period, the female shareholders of the bank were 40%, and they owned more than one-third of the share capital. Women have a more significant presence among small and medium shareholders. This research will pay special attention to the most prominent female shareowners and their family ties.
